Linguistic Archaeology: hunting the Ark of the Covenant

In Raiders of the Lost Ark the Ark is determined to be hidden in the Well of Souls at Tanis. A slight rethink on Tanis and we get Tarnkus. A Tarn is a mountain lake, and that changes everything. There is a river known as the river of the mountain, and it is near the source waters of the Nile. It amongst its many rivers flows from a mountain lake in the Rift Valley. Lake Naivasha is described as 160 square kilometres (62 sq mi) although it varies somewhat with rainfall, elevation 1,890 metres (6,200 ft), freshwater. Papyrus grows on the north of the lake and there Is a geological oddity on the eastern side with a mile diameter shape below the water encircled by a crescent island. A natural bowl or Jar (or sinkhole) seems an ideal location to drown the Ark of the Covenant.

For Ancient Egyptians this might have even been an obscure and secret place of the Gods at the source of the Nile. It offers fresh water where other lakes are soda.
