If you dont have Corona Virus its a good time to think about donating blood. Particularly if you are Universal Donor with blood type O. The Corona Virus may pose a significant threat to blood donor sources. With donors increasingly infected there will be real shortages.
Imagine everyone in the world who is blood type O deliberatly infecting themselves so that those who survive can serve as a blood transfusion vaccine to the sick.
The death toll is going to be far above what you are being told. We know that Twenty percent of the infected will require critical hospital care or they will die. We also know that seventy percent of the global population face infection by this time next year. So just short of a billion people can expect to die by next year.
Therefore its a numbers game.
We can infect a million blood type O universal donors with corona virus, and risk loosing two hundred thousand donors who will need critical hospital care on the chance that eight hundred thousand type O universal donors survive and can provide blood that carries antibodies to the corona virus.
If we do it now, we can probably save that billion.
