Glantri: Petty Immortals

This Russian film 'its hard to be a god' has a Glantrian feel to it that fits in to a new age where magic has failed and the Magic-user ruling class are fighting over the secret of cheap immortality while warriors are rising from the peasantry to throw them down.

Petty Immortality
The black D&D Masters boxed set has some nice rules on artefacts, but down the back in penalties and Handicaps is a nice section where the Artefact is an Immortal who can posess anyone attempting to use the artefact. That should come as a surprise for lovers of the gold D&D Immortals boxed set considering the minimum power points to be immortal are five hundred (5,000,000xp) for an initiate and one thousand (10,000,000xp) for a first level immortal while immortality as an Artefact only requires a hundred power points (1,000,000xp).

The Witch's Brush
Minor Artefact of Entropy

Power (100pp): wish
Penalties & Handicaps
The brush is the immortal form of Princess Carnelia de Belcadiz y Fedorias. Anyone other than Synn the Nightdragon attempting to make use of the Artefact can be posessed by Carnelia. In posession of a 'mortal' form she is able to use all her spells as a Wizard (Elf).
The brush was created from a hank of hair, a twist of gut, and a piece of bone taken from Carnelia by Synn the Nightdragon along with one hundred points of Radiance from the Nucleus of the Spheres.

Creating Other Petty Immortals
Synn will likely draw on the nucleus of the spheres creating artefacts from her allies as will her enemies once they realize the rush is on so here are a few suggestions:
  • The Iron Pin of Boldavia: from what little iron exists in the blood of the Vampire Prince of Boldavia.
  • The Pelt of the White Wolf: simply because this lycanthrope wizard is one of the few 'good guys'.
  • The Tiara of Bone: because this likely suits a princess, perhaps Erewan.
  • The Diamond Throne: because a certain Prince Kol deserves to be the throne that takes posession of anyone sitting on him.
Of course the nucleus of the spheres has its limits so once five thousand rad (enough for fifty artefacts) are drawn off: kaboom! Mystaran magic dies, Glantri is a crater, subterranean realms subside, and the known world is left in ruins. So keep track.
