The Sumerians and the Origins of Shogi
It related to the name of all the japanese shogi game pieces at (near) the same percentile of use. The O as a language use majority is not common in Japanese. But it is common in all the words used in the shogi game at a fully literate origin equal to Sumerian. So while both would be closely related as long as Sumerian U was in fact O, and related closely to Shogi. The shogi game pieces likewise developed over time, the earliest being chariots and hero pieces implying a different form of game- one involving the deployment of warriors to battlefields in a logistics game. Only later does it include the chessboard and more common chess pieces. There is one gameboard I can think of that fits that early chariot and hero logistics game- The Royal game of Ur.
