Known World: The Horns of Mahukdur

Mahukdur is a Kobold Chieftan. He has in the past decade proven to be very intelligent and cunning. His horns are the eight feet wide skull and antlers of a giant elk pulled from the ancient bog now beneath lake windrush yet even Mahukdur of legend, fell... through the ice of a frozen lake in battle with an ancient enemy and Mahukdur and horns were lost, the kobolds routed.
The horns have no power in itself other to confer on the Kobold who wears it the respect and loyalty of Kobolds. And only the strongest and most powerful kobold can bare the weight of it. When a kobold named Gub, hiding in the mud beneath the docks, witnesses a fisherman return with the great antlered skull it recognizes the artefact for what it is. Gub, cloaked and pretending to be a halfling, follows the fisherman to his hut and waits for his moment. The fisherman places his prize on the roof of his hut where Gub finds it easy pickings.

Gub recruits some ten thousand kobolds by Summer. And he sends a thousand into the Dymrak to each burrow beneath a tree and light it on fire. The forest abaze, a few surviving to return to the fold, he waits until the Goblins of Dymrak assault the human city of Kelvin while their forest burns and reinforcements are dispatched from Threshold. It is when the river valleys and uplands are choked with a smokey haze that the Kobolds infiltrate beneath the Town of Threshold setting the surrounding crops ablaze to distract the residents.
