Human-Space
Once they reach a star system, the Automated system turns the ship into a Hypergate linking back to Sol through an ever-expanding gate network. The first two gates link the Sol system to Alpha Centauri, the Alpha Centauri gate coming on-line in CY2650. Within another eight hundred years humanity will have hypergate access to over twenty five star systems, and by the Millenium, an expected surge to fifty star systems once the isolated Other-Space network becomes accessible.
Other-Space
While expansion beyond earth for humanity is paintakingly slow, entire mid to late stage regions of gate network are coming on-line in isolation from the Sol linked network. For any Aliens capable of travel within their solar system, the arrival of a hypergate network linking system after system out of reach of the human race can only result in the expansion of that Alien civilization as a rival.
That provides us with a different Star Frontiers setting... that makes use of my generic star map.
The Human Space Fleet
The Human Space Fleet is, other than civilian Yachts made up of three large vessel classes.
Fitted with two forward facing Disruptor Cannons, each fed by a drive reactor. The mid-sized heavily armoured Military vessel is designed to wage war, pulverize Asteroids, and function with a small flight crew from the Drop-craft that serves as a plug-n-play bridge.
It comes with a slightly larger crew compliment than the Destructor Class and has a large Saucer Section capable of ejecting the reactors and their main drives and functioning as a landing craft capable of atmospheric entry.
Though it comes with a small crew, the large cargo space can be modified to take cargo, colonists, or both.
